Your scoop has ninety seconds.

A scoop slumps before the phone is steady, and shop lighting turns vanilla a sad yellow. One counter frame brings back true colour and standing structure in about 2 minutes — thirty flavours, one look.

Scoop Shop Styles

Colour that survives your shop lighting

100+ curated styles built for frozen dessert shot at a counter under warm retail bulbs. Bright clean sweeps keep ivory vanilla from going grey or yellow; cool marble gives a gelato shop case the skimming light that makes spade-folded ribbons read as folds, with all thirty pans at one brightness; bold colour and teal tile separate a white soft-serve swirl from its ground. Everything stays bright, playful and family-priced — no austere plating. If you shave rather than scoop, see shaved ice stands.

Builder Mode

Surface plus vessel plus scoop equals a flavour board

Pick a surface, choose a vessel — waffle cone, coppetta, sundae glass or take-home pint — and upload your counter photo. Builder Mode composites all three, so the napkin dispenser, the card reader and the back of somebody's head never make the frame. The flavour is beautiful; the eighteen inches around it are a working service counter. Compositing is what makes an ice cream shop business read as a brand rather than a camera roll. For the baked side of a dessert counter, see bakeries.

My Styles

One house look across every flavour you launch

Upload your best-looking scoop as a style reference and every new flavour — Friday limited edition, summer sorbet, holiday peppermint — automatically matches that lighting, angle and mood. That consistency is the point of ice cream shop marketing: a grid where the whole scoop shop flavour board sits in one look reads as a shop worth crossing town for, while forty snapshots under forty bulbs read as a phone. For the craft itself, see our ice cream photography guide.

Perfect For

Every kind of counter selling frozen by the scoop

From a single-window scoop shop to a three-site creamery running a thirty-flavour board, the problem is identical: warm lighting, a queue that will not wait, and a product with about ninety seconds before it stops looking like the photo.

🍦

Independent Scoop Shops

Thirty flavours in the case, photos of maybe six, all shot under different light. Pull one cone between customers and get back the scoop the customer actually saw — spade ridges, true colour — not the yellow-cast version your phone recorded.

🍨

Gelaterias

Dense spade-folded gelato shot flat reads as coloured paste, not something churned. Restyling puts a skimming light back across the ribbons, so a pan of pistachio looks like the pan in your case.

🥛

Small-Batch Creameries

Your margin is in the take-home freezer, and pints sell from a photo before anyone tastes them. A frosted tub with a caramel ribbon breaking the surface does more work than any label copy — shoot the range once, one style.

🌀

Soft Serve & Swirl Counters

A swirl is perfect for about fifteen seconds before the coils soften and lean. Shoot it the moment it leaves the machine and get back a cone with every ridge still standing, ivory reading white instead of grey.

☀️

Seasonal & Summer Shops

You trade hard for five months and go quiet for seven. Build the whole board in one afternoon before the rush, and you have a season of content — plus a look the winter flavours drop straight into.

🏪

Small Local Chains

Four sites, four phones, four counter lights, and a feed that looks like four unrelated shops. Lock one reference style and every site lands in the same house look, whichever window somebody walks up to.

No. FoodShot never sends a photographer, never runs an on-site or studio shoot, never prints menu boards or signage, and never cooks, scoops or fabricates a dish for you. It restyles photos you take yourself. You scoop the real cone from your real case, exactly the way you serve it, take a phone photo of it on the counter, upload that photo, and FoodShot re-lights and re-stages that exact image — the same scoop, the same flavour, the same shop. What changes is the light, the surface underneath and the background behind it. What does not change is the product: if your pistachio is a muted natural green, it stays a muted natural green. This matters commercially as well as ethically, because the photo has to match what a customer is handed thirty seconds after they order it, and a shop that posts a scoop it does not actually sell gets found out at the window on the first warm Saturday.

One frame per flavour, taken in the fifteen to thirty seconds between the scoop leaving the spade and the cone leaving the counter. That is the entire shoot. Hold the phone at counter height, take three frames, and carry on serving — it costs less time than wiping the rim of a tub. Shooting at that moment matters because it is the only instant the product is correct: the spade ridges are still crisp, the shoulder has not slumped, the frost haze is still on the surface, and the first melt bead has not yet run down onto your fingers. Everything that usually ruins the shot happens afterwards, while you are trying to find a nicer background or a better angle. Do not chase either of those things. Shoot the scoop in the first fifteen seconds, in whatever light your counter has, and let the restyling supply the surface, the backdrop and the lighting after the fact.

That is the case it was built for, and it is the reason a scoop shop flavour board almost never gets photographed properly. Nobody is going to run thirty separate photo sessions, so most shops end up with six good flavours and twenty-four that never appear anywhere. The workflow that works is boring and fast: over a few quiet shifts, pull one cone or one cup per flavour and take three frames of each. That is a few minutes a day, not a project. Then run every one of them through the same saved style. Because the surface, the angle and the light are supplied afterwards rather than captured, the pan you shot on a grey Tuesday and the pan you shot in Saturday afternoon glare come back looking like they were photographed in the same session. That is what makes a board read as a range rather than a pile of snapshots, and it is what lets you post a flavour on the day it goes in the case.

Fewer than you think, but they have to be consistent. When people research how to start an ice cream shop, photography usually lands somewhere after the freezer quote and the lease, which is why so many new shops open with a menu board full of clip art. The practical minimum is one clean image per flavour in the case, one image per format you sell (cone, cup, sundae, shake, take-home pint), and one hero image of your single best-looking product for the shop front, the delivery listing and the top of your profile. That is roughly twenty images, not two hundred. Shoot them across your first fortnight of trading with the phone you already own, run them all through one style so they hold together, and you have a menu board, a delivery listing and a month of social posts from the same set. Add each new flavour as it goes in the case and the library builds itself.

Yes, and gelato is genuinely the harder of the two to photograph, which is where restyling earns its keep. Hard-scooped ice cream gives you a sphere with obvious ridges and shadow, so a phone has something to grab onto. Gelato in a pozzetti case or a display pan is spade-folded into a smooth dense mound with far less surface relief, and under the flat overhead light of a case it flattens into a rectangle of coloured paste. A pan of pistachio and a pan of hazelnut end up looking like two shades of the same beige. The fix is lighting angle rather than colour correction: a skimming key light across the ribbons brings the folds back, separates each flavour from its neighbour and restores the dense, cold, churned quality that makes someone want it. A gelato business selling on the look of its case needs that more than almost anyone, because the case is the product.

That is the specific problem it was built for. Frozen dessert is almost never photographed in good light: warm retail bulbs over a counter push everything amber, so ivory vanilla goes yellow and fior di latte goes cream; the glass and stainless of a case throw hard reflections and a green cast; a bright shop window behind the counter backlights the scoop and the phone exposes for the window instead. FoodShot does not correct that lighting so much as replace it. The scoop is relit with a chosen key direction against a chosen surface, so instead of nudging a yellow photo toward neutral and getting a muddy grey, you get a scoop lit the way a studio would have lit it. In practice that is the difference between a vanilla that looks slightly old and a vanilla that looks cold and fresh — and that single difference is doing most of the work in whether somebody stops scrolling.

Your flavour board deserves better photos.
