For Independent Grocers & Supermarket Marketers

Grocery store marketing lives or dies on the fresh departments.

The fresh departments are why shoppers drive past the national chain, and a sodium heat lamp makes them photograph grey. FoodShot restyles one prep-bench shot into a clean image for the circular and the click-and-collect tile in about 2 minutes.

Grocery Styles

Light that survives a heat lamp and a chiller tube

100+ curated styles for a building with more conflicting light than any other food business: a sodium lamp over the rotisserie, blue tubes over the chiller, warm bulbs in the bakery case. That mix is why good chicken photographs orange and deli ham grey. FoodShot corrects the cast in a prepared foods shot, then sets the item on clean bright sweeps for click-and-collect, polished marble and pale maple for bakery and deli, or dark slate and stone for the front-page circular feature.

Builder Mode

Surface plus backdrop plus item equals a circular tile

Pick a surface — pale maple, polished marble, dark slate. Choose a backdrop, upload your item photo, and Builder Mode composites all three, so the price gun, the blue roll and the shopper reaching past your shoulder never make the frame. Grocery images are never seen alone — twenty sit in one circular grid, four hundred in the online catalogue — and Builder Mode keeps the deli salad you shot in March sitting cleanly beside Tuesday's bakery cake.

Try Builder Mode→

My Styles

Lock the circular look once, apply it to every line

Set the best supplier-funded image you have as your style reference and every item you photograph is matched to it — surface tone, key direction, contrast curve. The forty lines you shoot yourself sit invisibly beside the twenty a supplier gave you, and the deli salad you photograph on a Tuesday lands in the circular looking like the same shoot. For a supermarket marketing team running several sites, one reference image is the cheapest brand-consistency control you will ever set up.

Perfect For

Every kind of grocer, supermarket and specialty retailer

From one independent store with a rotisserie oven to a regional group producing a weekly circular across forty sites, the fresh departments are the reason people choose you — and nobody has photographed them properly.

🛒

Independent Single-Store Grocers

The national chain gets supplier-funded photography; you get a store manager with a phone. Photograph the item on your prep bench between deliveries, restyle it in about 2 minutes, and have the circular, the shelf poster and the online tile ready the same afternoon.

🍗

Prepared Foods & Hot Counter Programmes

A sodium heat lamp turns a beautiful rotisserie chicken orange and the stainless pans throw the ceiling back into the lens. Take the item to a bench, shoot it in whatever light you have, restyle it, and the burnished skin actually reads.

🥪

Deli, Bakery & Service Counters

Service counters sell on belief: the shopper has to trust the salad was made this morning. Photograph one properly filled tub and one finished cake, restyle them once, and use the same images on the case card, the circular and the online catalogue.

🥬

Produce & Fresh Departments

Produce is the department shoppers judge the whole store by, and a cold overhead tube drains the red from tomatoes. Restyled imagery keeps the colour saturated and every mist droplet sharp — what makes a front-page circular feature stop a thumb.

💻

Online Ordering & Click-and-Collect Teams

In an online catalogue every item sits directly beside the last, and a picker photograph lit by a strip light is the odd tile out. Shoot each line once, restyle to one locked style, and the whole catalogue reads as a single set.

🏬

Regional Chains & Specialty Retailers

Ten to forty stores, one marketing manager, a circular that changes every week. Set one style reference, photograph each new line once, and push a consistent image set to every store — so a seasonal range never misses its window waiting on photography.

No. FoodShot never sends a photographer, never runs an on-site or studio shoot, never designs, prints or distributes your weekly circular, and never invents a product you do not stock. It restyles photos you take yourself. Your own team fills the deli tub, pulls the chicken off the rotisserie or lays out the produce, takes a phone photo of it, uploads that photo, and FoodShot re-lights and re-stages that exact image — the same bird, the same portion, the same pack, the same tray. Nothing is fabricated from scratch, which matters enormously in retail, where a shopper picks the item up off the shelf ninety seconds after seeing the picture and compares the two directly. What changes is the light, the surface underneath and the clutter behind it, not the food. If your fresh departments cannot produce it, it will not appear in your photos.

You do not have to solve it in the store, and that is the point. A sodium or halogen heat lamp sitting directly above a hot counter bakes a heavy orange cast into everything under it, and a phone camera makes it worse by trying to average that lamp against the fluorescent ceiling and the daylight coming down the aisle. Take the chicken off the display, set it on a plain tray on a prep bench a couple of metres away from the lamp, and photograph it there — no filter, no flash, whatever light the bench has. FoodShot corrects the colour cast, pulls the fluorescent green out of the tray and the packaging, and re-lights the skin so the crackle and the burnish read properly. Shooting directly under the lamp is the single most common reason a genuinely excellent rotisserie chicken looks grey and tired in a weekly circular.

Yes, and for a small marketing team it is usually the fastest win available. Photograph the item once, restyle it once, then crop the same asset for each destination: wide for a circular feature panel, square for the click-and-collect catalogue tile and the app grid, tall for a social story, and whatever ratio your shelf strips and price-point posters need. Because the restyled frame centres the item with real margin around it, none of those crops clip the product. The one thing worth checking separately is print — a circular printed at broadsheet size on newsprint has its own resolution and colour expectations, so confirm requirements with whoever produces it. For every screen-based and shelf-edge placement, one photograph genuinely does cover all of them, and you produce one asset instead of four.

They photograph far better away from the display case, so take the item out of it. A chiller or deli case does three things at once: the cold tube light drains colour out of every fresh ingredient, the glass throws a hard specular smear and a reflection of the aisle behind you across whatever is underneath, and the case sticker or price rail almost always creeps into the frame. Set the tub, the tray or the produce on a clean bench, shoot it straight down from directly above or from a low front angle, and let FoodShot handle the rest — it corrects the blue cast, restores the saturation the tube light stripped out, and puts the item on a clean surface. For misted produce this matters even more, because water droplets need a directional light to read as fresh rather than as grey speckle.

Every image comes back at 2048x2048 and is optimised on delivery, which is comfortably enough for an online catalogue tile, an app card, a shelf strip, a counter card, a social post or a standard price-point poster. Large-format print is the one case worth checking before you commit: a full-page circular feature or a large window poster viewed at close range can want more pixels than a screen tile ever will. Talk to whoever produces your print media about their minimum resolution and colour profile before sending a single image to a large press run. Note also that FoodShot supplies the image file only — it does not design, print, ship or install circulars, posters, shelf strips or any other physical media, and it does not place your media buy.

Realistically, one afternoon per department. Fill or plate each line the way it actually goes out, take a handful of phone photos on a clean bench from a couple of angles, pick the sharpest one, and each restyle takes about 2 minutes. A twenty-line deli and prepared-foods range with a couple of alternates each is about two hours of actual processing, and the slow part is preparing the food, not photographing it. That is the entire reason this exists: the gap between a promotion being agreed and the creative arriving is exactly where an independent loses to the chain. You can have circular assets, catalogue tiles and social posts finished on the Friday before a Monday promotion starts, and if a line changes mid-week you reshoot that one item and swap the image.

Your fresh departments deserve better photos.
